happy new year! i've moved into a new place and my bedroom is much smaller. in pursuit of "actually having enough space for the things i use day to day," i'm trying to get rid of some of my books, and now i'm trying to read through all the ones i've owned for a while and never read in pursuit of getting rid of the ones i don't actually like.
first on the pile was rumi's "stories for young adults", selections from the mathnawi. i took an intro to islam class in college so i had a little bit of cultural context when reading. the stories were interesting but i don't think i'm going to keep the book. they're like fairy tales/folktales basically, modern as of 1200s turkey when rumi was writing, and the lessons at the end of them... some of them are definitely of their time. all i'll say.
and in case anyone was wondering, the new place is great, my new roommate is awesome :)
