hello. my name is inigo montoya.
Dec. 21st, 2024 10:21 pmHello, folks! Excellent news for me: whatever bug killed rich text editor on my DW is gone now! We're so back.
So as you might have inferred from the title, I read the Princess Bride book by William Goldman. Overall, I'm a fan of the metanarrative about it being a legally-contested and contentious adaptation. The intros were cool (my version had two of them, I guess it was a later-published copy). It was also interesting to see just how much of the movie was lifted word-for-word from the book. I could hear the actors' voices in my head while I was reading. Funny, that. However, the end bit about "Buttercup's Baby" I did not so much enjoy. Firstly, I am much more familiar with the movie and am therefore married to the nice neat happy ending <3 Maybe this is also a product of my frustration with the 21st century's obsession with sequels. But I don't know, in-universe Goldman's obsession with telling the story, and telling the RIGHT story, started to fall on the wrong side of frustrating. All this business with the lawyers and Stephen King and going on a research trip. The metanarrative kind of falls apart, I would have preferred the book without the Buttercup's Baby bit. Although that might have been part of real-Goldman's commentary on the publishing industry or whatever.
also, I watched CoE day 4 today. Ianto is dead. It's all very sad. (The social commentary continues to be very good.)
