the best game of thrones fanfiction
Nov. 16th, 2024 07:57 pmwell, actually there's several really good game of thrones fanfictions out there. one of baby's first fandoms was asoiaf/game of thrones back in like 2014/15 (so, for those of you inclined to do math, i was in my first year of high school and the tv show was just premiering). yes, i did read at least two of the books all the way through. since i haven't been able to keep up with 911 and i'm procrastinating on watching children of earth, i'm reading old bookmarks instead. like, some of my oldest ao3 bookmarks that i've loved since before i knew how the bookmark function worked and saved them as browser bookmarks instead.
and the work i'm here to bother you all about today is called loud pipes save lives. it is a fanfiction where sansa stark is a detective, bran and jaime are charity board besties, catelyn is an art dealer, and arya and daenerys are girlfriends and also in a biker gang. it is about the characters as members of the new york multimillionaire elite. the starks are in the publishing industry. the lannisters are bankers and tommen is also the mayor. margaery tyrell is the district attorney. it drives me so crazy because on the one hand, it's such an internet-unfriendly au. like, acab, right? sansa and brienne are Good Cops. they all have more money than they know what to do with--no, really--bran is part of the nonprofit industrial complex and doesn't have a real job, and robb has a trophy wife. but honestly that's part of the fun. i mean, in literal actual game of thrones none of them are good people. the thing that really haunts me about this fic, though, is how good the pacing and storyline are. i need this to be a seven-episode miniseries, or a very long and slightly disjointed movie. AND THE AUTHOR HAS ORPHANED IT, SO I CANT EVEN COMMENT TO BE LIKE OP PLEASE FILE OFF THE SERIAL NUMBERS RIGHT NOW IMMEDIATELY. the author completely deletes rickon and relegates tyrion lannister to a one-off appearance while simultaneously elevating [redacted] to the main character who's been calling the shots the entire time. every single pairing, bar the bran/meera, is so totally out there and not particularly common. despite all of this, it's a brilliant detective story that barely reveals itself to be a detective story for the first few chapters. like, it makes you think, oh i have all the pieces, while simultaneously teasing you about a couple little things, and then the whole story falls into your lap in the last seven chapters and you're like oh shit. it's brilliant. it makes me want to write the screenplay myself and film it literally just to post it as an inspired work on ao3.
i don't even know how to tag this. book tag? tv tag? separate tag for fanfic? maybe i just won't tag it at all.
