isunshoweri've mentioned in my past couple of posts that i've been forcing myself to get through a YA book in german before putting in any library holds. well. yesterday i finally finished rubinrot (ruby red), the first book in the liebe geht durch alle zeiten (love through time) trilogy.
mostly? thank GOD i'd already read this book in english. given, it was several years ago. it was a struggle to make it all the way to the end, and there are certain words i'd miss or paragraphs i'd accidentally skip over and have to go back and reread. there was a lot of "keeping google translate open on the work computer". but honestly, i'm pretty proud of myself? i've owned the german copies of these books for years. like literally i think since i went to germany in 2016 i've owned these books, i'd never gotten more than 2ish chapters in, and this fall i sat myself down with google translate, a pen, and the sheer determination to muscle through the frankly godawful plot (romantic interest has personality changes on a dime, main character is a ditzy motherfucker who is also somehow right about everything because she's so super special and she has a massive not like other girls complex that is then indulged when she finds out she can time travel) and i DID THE DAMN THING. so now i get to go ham with library holds and we'll pick up this terrible little project in a few months with the next book, saphirblau
also, [rings bell] ITS EUROVISION SEASON MOTHERFUCKERS! uh. sort of. it's "televised national preselection" season. the montenegrin one happened already. there's some drama. none of the songs were all that good. i want to talk about latvia though because they have a SOLID lineup this year including knockoff carly rae jepsen and latvia goes kpop and whatever this is, it's good. AND THERE'S MORE i'm actually really enjoying a lot of the potential songs this year. riga 2026 mayhaps.....................? there's seriously something for everyone i think, and latvia frequently... sometimes they send really good shit, sometimes they send things that totally suck, i think if they play their cards right this could really be a top 5 year for them and i don't think that has happened in a WHILE. hopefully these entries (as opposed to the drama that was montenegro) are setting the tone for the year.
